# About Scopt

## We got it wrong first. That's why we get it right now.

About Scopt

Two entrepreneurs, twenty years in the energy sector between us, and one lesson that cost us two years: smart charging only scales for CPOs when it's built for the people who run charging as a service. This is the story of how we got there.

## The home charger is the biggest, most controllable load in the house. But nobody was building for the people who run it.

Why we exist

Roughly 80% of EV charging in Europe happens at home. Grid congestion is now the biggest brake on electrification. Smart charging is no longer a nice-to-have; it's becoming law. The only open question is who delivers it to the driver. We believe it should be the CPO, under their own brand. Everything we build serves that one belief.

## From an EMS for installers to a scalable solution for CPOs.

The story

Chronologically, including the part where we were wrong.

### Twenty years inside the energy sector.

2010s

Before Scopt

Before Scopt, we worked on energy systems at Siemens and Ingenium. We saw early that the next problem wouldn't be generating green energy. It would be using it at the right moment.

### An EMS for installers.

2021

The first idea

Solar, batteries, heat pumps and chargers controlled via one box, sold through installers. The first prototypes worked, the first installers were keen, and we were convinced this was it.

### Scopt is founded in Leuven. The installer model starts to crack.

2022

Founded

We set up in Leuven, home to KU Leuven and imec, one of Europe's strongest tech ecosystems. While we pushed the installer EMS to market, the cracks showed: every home a project, every brand its own configuration, support that grew with every install. Not a model a service provider, like a CPO, can scale on.

### The year everything changed. All-in on the home charger, all-in on CPOs.

2023

The pivot

We stopped optimising the whole house and asked which load really matters. The charger: the biggest consumer in the home, the most flexible, and the one that speaks a standard protocol. Then the second insight: the driver doesn't buy smart charging, the company running the charging service does, across every charger brand in its fleet. That's the CPO. The CPMS platforms CPOs already run on became our partner and we went full focus on the same customer.

What we learned

A service EMS is a different animal from an installer EMS: light, software-led, white-label, and built to keep a CPO's operating costs flat as they scale. That is the category we chose to lead.

### Two major CPOs sign within months of the new proposition.

2024

First customers

The new positioning and go-to-market landed immediately: two large operators went live with smart charging under their own brand, plugged into their existing back office. And proof that an existing fleet can be upgraded remotely, without a single site visit.

### Expansion across the Benelux. First VC fund on board.

2025

Benelux

Leading CPOs in Belgium and the Netherlands joined, each on their own CPMS. JK Invest, a Belgian VC focused on B2B SaaS, backed us to scale the platform and the team.

### Growth, and taking the operational load off CPOs.

2026

Scale

The market has matured: CPOs now expect systems that give insight for reliability and operational excellence, not just a smart app. That is where we double down: maximum operational relief for the CPO, and the ambition to become one of the largest smart charging players in Europe.

Every charger should be connected to a back office in a standardised way. That is how CPOs can monetise services like smart charging at scale, with a great experience for their customers.

## Two kinds of EMS. Only one is built for a CPO.

The lesson, in one table

We built the first kind. We now build the second. The EMS a CPO picks isn't a technical choice; it's strategic and decides which business they end up running.

Criterion

### Installer EMS

Where we started

### Service EMS

Where we are

Model

Selling assets. Margin in hardware and installation.

SaaS. Recurring revenue over the customer's lifetime.

Footprint

Heavy. Local configuration, hardware in every home.

Light. A cloud layer on the charger, nothing in the home network.

Opex

Grows with every install. Multi-asset complexity you don't control.

Flat as you scale. One process for every charger brand, remote everything.

For a CPO

A different animal. Pulls you back into the installer model.

Built for it. Your brand on the customer relationship.

## Meet the founders

The founders

Lars Cappelle

Co-founder & CEO

I strongly believe in the power of focus and partnerships. When companies concentrate on their core strengths and work together, the combined product becomes far more powerful than any all-in-one solution. Our focus is clear: making home charging profitable for CPOs by being their smart charging plugin.

Co-founder & Chief of Product

This company was born from a deep interest in renewable energy and the belief that innovation fuels progress. As the energy transition accelerates, our goal is simple: create technology that helps everyone, especially those not interested in energy, embrace a cleaner future.

## One of the largest smart charging players in Europe. Without owning a single charger.

Where we're going

Every home charger in Europe will be connected to a back office. We want to be the standard layer that turns that connection into a service: smart charging, support and new revenue, for the CPO, under their brand. Built in Belgium. Made for every CPO in Europe.

We are not a charger manufacturer

we work on every brand

We are not a CPMS

we plug into yours

We are not an energy supplier

we work with any contract

We are the smart charging layer for CPOs

one thing, done properly
